Since we last checked in, we have continued learning so much and had fun doing it! We are still practicing our addition and subtraction but will begin measurement very soon! We have continued to work on persuasive writing and by the end of this writing unit I think your children will be very persuasive! We continue to work on blending and segmenting sounds to form words in reading. In science we have started learning about animals and what the differences between living and non-living things are! We also have had fun lessons learning about dental health where we made marshmallow teeth! Yesterday, we had an engineer from the Kimberly-Clark company come to our class and do a science experiment that taught us about germs and washing our hands! Everyone really enjoyed it and had fun being a scientist for the day! I am also so excited for next week because it is going to be Dr. Suess themed. On Friday which is Dr. Seuss’ birthday we will be having Read All Day where we will be reading and having special Dr. Suess inspired activities!

2/8/13

Ms. Jackson’s Kindergarten class has been learning about so many things since our last update! We have had so much fun learning about rocks and soil in science by using our five senses to explore their attributes! In math we are learning how to write and solve addition and subtraction problems. We are thrilled to share what project we have been working on lately. Each student is writing a book about themselves and their favorite things. It has been so much fun being the author and illustrator of our very own books! We are even going to have a publishing party to celebrate our many new authors and the completion of the project (details will be sent home in the newsletter when the date gets closer). In social studies we will start learning about our presidents in honor of Presidents Day since it is coming up soon! We continue to practice reading and writing in Language Arts and many students have been practicing by writing their valentines at home for Valentine’s Day! It will be so much fun to read them on Thursday! Thanks for checking in with our class and we hope to see you soon!
