We have learned rules and about community helpers in Social Studies. We even had a career day where we learned about a ton of great jobs from parents! In the next few weeks we will be starting to study physical properties in Science. We have been having a busy and great time so far and are looking forward to what the rest of the year has in store!

April

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful spring break! The Friday before the break we had art day where we made beautiful butterflies and sunshine for our outside bulletin board. We had a lot of fun painting our butterflies! In writing we are working on narrative pieces. In science we are learning about what plants need and their different parts. We have finished up measurement in math and are now practicing fluent addition and subtraction as well as finding missing addends. Please have students continue to practice reading and writing at home as well as sight words. Thanks!

March 25

We have had a very productive month of March in Kindergarten! In math we have been examining different forms of measurement and the tools we use to measure with. We just completed our persuasive writing unit and finished it by writing about what super power we would want and the reasons we would want it! They turned out great! We also have been busy learning about animals and offspring in science! We recently celebrated our authors and illustrators by having our publishing party where all of the students got to showcase the books they wrote and illustrated which were fantastic! Please continue to practice reading and writing at home as well as sight words! Thanks so much for all of your support!

Since we last checked in, we have continued learning so much and had fun doing it! We are still practicing our addition and subtraction but will begin measurement very soon! We have continued to work on persuasive writing and by the end of this writing unit I think your children will be very persuasive! We continue to work on blending and segmenting sounds to form words in reading. In science we have started learning about animals and what the differences between living and non-living things are! We also have had fun lessons learning about dental health where we made marshmallow teeth! Yesterday, we had an engineer from the Kimberly-Clark company come to our class and do a science experiment that taught us about germs and washing our hands! Everyone really enjoyed it and had fun being a scientist for the day! I am also so excited for next week because it is going to be Dr. Suess themed. On Friday which is Dr. Seuss’ birthday we will be having Read All Day where we will be reading and having special Dr. Suess inspired activities!

2/8/13

Ms. Jackson’s Kindergarten class has been learning about so many things since our last update! We have had so much fun learning about rocks and soil in science by using our five senses to explore their attributes! In math we are learning how to write and solve addition and subtraction problems. We are thrilled to share what project we have been working on lately. Each student is writing a book about themselves and their favorite things. It has been so much fun being the author and illustrator of our very own books! We are even going to have a publishing party to celebrate our many new authors and the completion of the project (details will be sent home in the newsletter when the date gets closer). In social studies we will start learning about our presidents in honor of Presidents Day since it is coming up soon! We continue to practice reading and writing in Language Arts and many students have been practicing by writing their valentines at home for Valentine’s Day! It will be so much fun to read them on Thursday! Thanks for checking in with our class and we hope to see you soon!

January

We have been having lots of fun in Kindergarten since we have got back from the holiday break! We have been continuing to learn our letters, sounds, and words in reading! In science, we learned about day and night and now in social studies we are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to the world! Next week we will begin discussing persuasive writing and practicing it as well! In math we are examining 2D and 3D shapes.  Today in class we had a fun snack of cheese balls (spheres), cheese cubes (cubes), Bugles (cones), and Combos (Cylinders)! Before we ate them each student graphed how many they had of each shape! It was fun and delicious! Thanks for reading about what is going on and we will keep you updated with all the happenings to come in our class!
